Team Zambia 2019 - Day 1

Day One

Church Zambian Style

It’s always to fun to see someone’s first glimpse of church in Zambia. Here’s a couple of observations from team members:

Gene Garza- "It’s amazing how welcoming and friendly the people are to people that are from half a world away."

Matt Gibson- "I was really struck by how genuinely caring the people are for each other and for us. I think we could learn a lot from them about just taking time to care for one another back home."

Blanca Elizondo- "We went to visit the church established last year and when we got off the bus, I met a beautiful little girl who was actually singing a song she learned from last years team. When I tried to speak to her only to be told by her friend that she doesn’t even speak English!"

Before church service even started the children gathered and we had an impromptu performance of the songs they learned last year.

During the service, it was amazing to hear old hymns like “I will Sing the Wondrous Story” and “Glory to His Name” in English and then in Bimba, one of the local languages.

Matt Gibson Speaks- At one point during the service the Pastor asked if there were any testimonies from the crowd. Immediately, Matt Gibson stood up and said, “I will share”. He walked to the front and told the story of how he came to know Christ. Each team member has written their story and are ready to share at a moment’s notice.

Evening Pastor’s Conference- For the first time in Zambia, we did a training conference for church planting pastors in the area. Thirty seven pastors showed up with some driving long distances from new church plants in the bush. They opened the conference by singing the hymn “How Great Thou Art.” The harmonies and melodies from the 37 pastors gave us a small sample of how Heaven will sound. Mission City Church blessed these hard-working men of God with training resources, books, and a catered meal- something they rarely experience.
